Playground & Outdoor Installation
JR Thomas Group provided a comprehensive playground and outdoor improvements package for Fort Bend ISD across 14 elementary campuses, with two alternate campuses included in the proposal. The work involved the installation of new playground areas, basketball court replacements, concrete walking tracks, shade structures, site drainage improvements, sidewalks, sod, and surface restoration. The package was developed using RS Means pricing and was scheduled to support multiple campus improvements within one coordinated program.
Project Challenge
Coordinating improvements across multiple active school campuses
Managing varied scopes from site to site, including playgrounds, courts, tracks, drainage, and shade structures
Sequencing demolition, new installation, and restoration work efficiently
Supporting long-lead manufacturing for composite play units and metal shade structures within the overall project duration
What We Did
JR Thomas Group’s scope included supply and installation of composite playground units, slab-on-grade concrete pads with drilled piers, pour-in-place rubber fall protection, basketball court demolition and replacement, concrete walking tracks, concrete sidewalks, site work, underground drainage, and sod and hydromulch restoration. Several campuses also included new gable ridge metal shade structures with concrete pier footings, gutters, and downspouts, along with modifications to existing play equipment where required.
RESULT
The project delivered a district-wide improvement approach that combined safety surfacing, new recreation features, site upgrades, and campus support infrastructure into one organized package. With improvements planned across 14 elementary schools and a total estimated cost of $6.34 million, the project reflects JR Thomas Group’s ability to manage large-scale, multi-site outdoor construction programs for public school clients.
